چکیده

In Brief Objective: To evaluate the immediate effects of positive expiratory pressure therapy on oxygen saturation and ventilation after abdominal surgery. Background: Positive to treat postoperative hypoxia is widespread, despite a lack evidence effect. Methods: This randomized, sham-controlled, crossover trial investigated adults 1–2 days surgery at Umeå University Hospital, Sweden. The intervention was 10–15 cm H2O. control sham device. investigations were ended with deep-breathing maneuvers. Outcomes gradient changes in peripheral transcutaneous carbon-dioxide partial (PtcCO2). Results: Eighty patients included randomized 76 analyzed. Oxygen increased from baseline mean 92% 95%, P < 0.001, during breathing, while PtcCO2 decreased 36 33 mm Hg, 0.001. followed by apnea, desaturations 89%, before returning values. did not differ breathing or Conclusions: improves maneuver because hyperventilation, but it hypoventilation, desaturation. effect different expiration device hyperventilation. It time stop surgery, as there no previous trials, apart adverse reported here. Mini-Abstract: Short-term transient authors suggest using

Response of Maximum Inspiratory Pressure and Functional Capacity to Positive End-Expiratory Pressure Device after Valvular Heart Surgery

Background: Pulmonary complications following valvular heart surgery are common and contribute to increased duration of hospital stay, rate of morbidity, and mortality. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the response of maximum inspiratory pressure and functional capacity to Positive End-Expiratory Pressure device in patients who underwent valvular hea...

Chest physiotherapy with positive expiratory pressure breathing after abdominal and thoracic surgery: a systematic review.

A variety of chest physiotherapy techniques are used following abdominal and thoracic surgery to prevent or reduce post-operative complications. Breathing techniques with a positive expiratory pressure (PEP) are used to increase airway pressure and improve pulmonary function. No systematic review of the effects of PEP in surgery patients has been performed previously. The purpose of this system...

Interaction Between Intra-Abdominal Pressure and Positive-End Expiratory Pressure

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to quantify the interaction between increased intra-abdominal pressure and Positive-End Expiratory Pressure. METHODS In 30 mechanically ventilated ICU patients with a fixed tidal volume, respiratory system plateau and abdominal pressure were measured at a Positive-End Expiratory Pressure level of zero and 10 cm H2O. The measurements were repeated after plac...

effect of positive end-expiratory pressure on central venous pressure in patients under mechanical ventilation

introduction: finding the probable governing pattern of peep and cvp changes is an area of interest for in-charge physicians and researchers. therefore, the present study was designed with the aim of evaluating the relationship between the mentioned pressures. methods: in this quasi-experimental study, patients under mechanical ventilation were evaluated with the aim of assessing the effect of ...

Comparison of the effect of pressure support ventilation and volume assured pressure support ventilation on weaning patients off mechanical ventilation after cardiac surgery

Background: Weaning from mechanical ventilation in the intensive care unit is an important step in the treatment process. More patients in less than 6 hours after cardiac surgery can be separated from mechanical ventilation and extubated. However, 20-40% of patients after cardiac surgery, due to dysfunctional ventilator weaning response (DVWR), still remain under mechanical ventilation. Therefo...
